A Special Moment

I am very grateful for the little ways God shows His grace. Dr. Dorsett and Mary visited with us recently. I won't take the time to recount all the many ways God shed His goodness on our time together (I couldn't do justice to all the cookies & war stories!). One was especially touching to me. Dr. Dorsett doesn't speak much Spanish, but the Holy Spirit has a way of transcending the language barrier! I happened to be standing next to him when he asked his customary question to a sister in Christ, "How is your soul?" She recounted a difficulty that she was having (which I "explained" in Spanish. Then Mary joined us to pray with her. It was a small thing (if prayer could ever be considered small!) but it was a little way that God showed His strength through our (read that my!) weakness.

4th of July & Keith Green

The CFCI Team here had a good 4th of July celebration! The day began with Torta (more about that to come). After Torta we went over to the Jones' house for a cookout! We had barbecue chicken, hotdogs, baked beans, corn on the cob and cupcakes! I had a great time trying roasted corn the Mexican way--with lime juice, cheese, butter and salt! It was quite tasty. I also got to try out some Mexican refresco (or soft drink) that was pineapple flavored. I also enjoyed that! We rounded out the evening with some poppers (the tiny balls of paper filled with gunpowder that make a loud pop when they hit the ground). The kids (and the adults) got a kick out of these.

After the party we watched a Keith Green documentary. He was a musician who became a believer and started living out his faith in a radical way! I had never heard of him before, but he is one of Pastor Doug's favorites! This was a good reminder that I'm not just learning about Mexican culture but about the Body of Christ as a whole. Thank God for the ways He expands our horizons and let's us in on the wonderful world He's redeeming!
Also I wanted to show you some pics of my room! So, here you go :)

What I Did Today

"Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all." 1 Chronicles 29:11

Today was a good day. I painted a room at the Bodega with Ruth, Karen, and Christen. We did a nice job and the meeting room is now a cheery yellow. After a great lunch of french fry (formerly tater tot :) casserole and great banana nut, chocolate chip bread, we pulled weeds from the garden, by hand! After dinner we walked around downtown a bit. There was a parade for queen of Fresnillo. Fun day and night!
